All states, UTs to start dry run of COVID-19 vaccine from January 2

The dry run has already taken place in 4 states. Now all states and UTs will conduct dry run from January 2 which hints at a vaccine to be launched soon in India.

A dry run of COVID-19 vaccine will be held in all states and union territories on January 2 in order to check the preparation of making of the vaccine and implementation of its inoculation. The Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan presided over a high- level meeting with all states and union territories.

Earlier on December 28 and 29 first dry run was conducted in four states, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat. Now the drill will be held in the whole country so as to check the vaccine for emergency use. The process will be conducted in at least three session sites in all state capitals. Some states will also include districts that are located in difficult terrain or have poor logistical support.

The health ministry said,” The objectivity of the dry run for COVID-19 vaccine introduction is to assess operational feasibility in the use of CO-WIN application in field environment, to test the linkages between planning and implementation and to identify the challenges and guide way forward prior to actual implementation.

The panel is examining applications from three firms- the Serum Institute of India, Pfizer and Bharat Biotech. In the process of dry run, participants will receive dummy coronavirus vaccines to test the mechanism of the vaccine.
