Annu Rani finishes 7th in women's Javelin throw Final

Her second throw remained the best of the day…


Annu Rani, Indian javelin star missed out on the medal after finishing seventh in the women's javelin throw final with a best throw of 61.12m at Hayward Field on Day 8 of the World Athletics Championships at Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.

Australia’s Kelsey-Lee Barber claimed gold with a massive throw of 66.91m while Kara Winger won silver with a best throw of 64.05m in her final attempt, while Japan’s Haruka Kitagichi claimed Japan’s first medal at a javelin event at the Worlds with her final throw of 63.27m.

Haruka Kitaguchi broke down into tears as she scripted history to become the first Japanese woman to clinch a global medal in javelin throw with a 63.27m throw. She finished third.

Home favourite Kara Winger soaked in all the applause crowd as she pocketed the silver medal with a 64.05m throw.

According to the information,The national record holder had qualified for the final as eighth best in the qualification round with a throw of 59.60m.

Competing in Group B, Annu started with a foul and then came up with a throw of 55.35m and 59.60m in her third attempt to finish fifth in her group. Only three competitors -- Haruka Kitaguchi (64.32m) of Japan, Tokyo Olympics winner Shiying Liu (63.86m) of China and Levita Jasiunaite (63.80) of Lithuania -- achieved the qualifying standard of 62.50m and will start as the favourites for the medals. The qualifying cut was set at 62.50m or the 12 best performers. Annu thus was placed 8th among 29 competitors that participated in the competition.
