Army Chopper Crashes in Tamil Nadu

Army chopper crash in which Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat was on board


 An army chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu a short while ago in which Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat was on the flight.

 

General Rawat's staff and his family members were also among the nine people on board.

 

The Indian Air Force tweeted that the Chief of Defence Staff was on the flight. He took a flight from Delhi to Sulur a day before.

 

"An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, met with an accident today with CDS General Bipin Rawat on board, near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to check the cause of this massive accident.

 

Four people died and two of them survived. Details are not known so far.

 

The crash took place in the Nilgiris, shortly after the Mi-series chopper took off from the army base in Sulur.

 

The chopper was flying to the Wellington defence establishment.
