Australia defeated England in the 2nd test take 2-0 series lead

Jhye Richardson bagged his second fifer for Australia in Test cricket

Jhye Richardson on Monday took his second fifer in Test cricket as Australia defeated England by 275 runs in the second Ashes Test to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match Test Series.

England was chasing a target of 468, but they were all out for 193 in the final session of the match.

Jhye Richardson was the star bowler for the Aussies, claiming 5-42. The 25-year-old made his test debut against Sri Lanka in February 2019 where he took his first five-wicket haul in the match at the Gabba.

Richardson is a right-arm fast bowler with an exceptional ability to swing the ball at the speed of 149 kph.

However, Labuschagne was awarded the man of the match for his century (103), he was the only centurion from either side of the match.

After the victory Australian stand-in Captain Steve Smith said, “They showed great resilience today. Jos played really good innings, he faced over 200 balls.”

We were trying to stay as calm as we could out in the middle and just thought a couple of good balls and a couple of wickets and we’ll keep going,” he added.

Australia was without the regular captain Pat Cummings, who missed the match for being a close contact of a Covid-19 positive case.

Chris Woakes scored 44 runs, which was the highest individual score in England’s batting order in the second innings, while Jos Buttler faced207 balls and scored 26 runs.

England Cricket tweeted, “A brave fight on the final day but Australia win the second Test to take a 2-0 series lead.”

England has now lost a second straight test match against Australia.

“We made mistakes throughout the game that we made last week, whether it be no-balls, missed chances,” England captain Joe Root said.

“We just have to be better. We have to learn those lessons very quickly over the next week.”

The third Test match will begin on 26 December and it will be played at MCG, Melbourne.
