Bangladesh Beats World TEST Champions For The First Time

Ebadot Hossain took six wickets against the hosts in the second innings

The two-decade wait is finally over for Bangladesh as they have crushed the World Test Champions for the first time with a stunning 8 wickets victory.

Mominul Haque led side defeated the World Champions in their backyard for the first time in 16 attempts. Bangladesh has been touring New Zealand since 2001.

With this win, Bangladesh has also become the first side to beat New Zealand in New Zealand in Tests since Pakistan’s 10- wicket victory in Hamilton in January 2011.

Ebadot Hossain was the star of the match as he took his career’s best figure, 6-46 as Bangladesh dismissed the Kiwis for 169 on day five.

“It’s unbelievable! It was a great achievement for us, our first win out of Asia. We stuck to the process. We gave 110 percent. It feels great,” said seamer Taskin Ahmed.

Bangladesh is now in the fifth position on the WTC table after defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets.

“First win vs New Zealand in New Zealand (in all formats). First Test win vs New Zealand. First away Test win against a team in the top five of the ICC Rankings. 12 crucial #WTC23 points! History for Bangladesh at oval!” ICC tweeted.

Man of the match was awarded to Ebadot for his brilliant performance. Hossain was earlier a volleyball player who had only taken 11 wickets in his last 10 matches.

New Zealand is without their regular skipper Kane Williamson for the series as he is suffering from an elbow injury.

“We were not quite there in all the three facets,” said stand-in-captain Tom Latham.

“Bangladesh showed us how to go about things on that wicket…. And they thoroughly deserved to win.”

Bangladesh is leading the 2 match Test series by 1-0.
