Before the vaccine, the US has been doing very well-told US infectious disease specialist Anthony Fauci

Another Covid-19 explosion in the US

A top US infectious disease specialist Anthony Fauci on Saturday (local time) warned that the United States could be on the verge of another COVID-19 operation if Americans are not careful. There are two important things the US can do to prevent more infections, more hospitalizations, and more deaths said Fauci.

"A, you keep pressing down and doubling the public health measures, and B, you do whatever you can get more people vaccinated as soon as possible and very quickly," he said.

Before the vaccine, The US has been doing "very well," Fauci said. Citing data from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention country reported a new record over the weekend with more than four million COVID-19 vaccines installed within 24 hours. According to Johns Hopkins University, as many as 30,672,830 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The death toll in the country stands at 554,779.

"Record Day!! 4.08M volumes were reported for the full amount yesterday," writes Dr. Cyrus Shahpar, Director of Information for COVID-19 at the White House.

But even though there is a record speed of vaccination, there are not enough Americans vaccinated yet to control the spread of the virus, experts warn. To date, approximately 31.4 percent of Americans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and only 18 percent of people have been fully vaccinated. That is why experts are calling for ongoing safety measures.

Earlier Fauci also warned that there could be a new wave of infection with COVID-19 while urging former President Donald Trump to tell his supporters to be vaccinated. More than 101 million doses of the vaccine have been given in the US so far, however, President Joe Biden, last month had promised that all American adults would be able to get the vaccine by May 1.
