Bengaluru Doctor Tested Positive Again after Omicron-Infection

23 cases of Omicron variant have been reported in the country


Bengaluru: A senior official said today, A 46-year-old Bengaluru doctor, was among the first Omicron affected patients in India. He has again tested positive for Covid after Omicron infection.

As per the mandate issued by the health ministry, 7 days after his last test, the RT-PCR test was conducted. Now, he has been kept under observation for a week and will be discharged only after a negative RT-PCR test report.

New corona virus variant in India was first reported in Karnataka with two cases - a 46-year-old male and a 66-year-old male.

Five people came in contact with the Bengaluru doctor, who had tested positive, if returned negative reports, will be discharged by the end of the day. The samples had been sent for genome sequencing, the results of which are still awaited.

On Monday, the state government had also traced over 200 people who had come in contact with the two patients and tested them for Covid-19.Bangalore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Gupta said, "Thirteen primary contacts and nearly 205 secondary contacts of the doctor were traced for the testing."

Karnataka has now approved two labs for genome sequencing and plans to ramp up testing. The state government has also seeked the Centre's approval for 4 more labs.

Twenty-three cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been reported across the country. 10 cases have been reported in Maharashtra, while 9 cases in Rajasthan.

The Omicron variant, which was first detected in South Africa, has now spread to several parts of the globe. No deaths have been reported yet. Authorities worldwide are checking how contagious it is and how effective existing vaccines are for it.
