Bird flu in poultry confirmed in six states

Avian influenza has been confirmed in poultry birds in six states so far.


The centre on Wednesday confirmed the spread of avian influenza in poultry birds in six states so far. The six states are- Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Punjab while 10 states have confirmed the spread of bird flu among other birds such as crow, migratory and wild birds. "Till 20th January, 2021 outbreaks of Avian Influenza have been confirmed in 6 states (Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Punjab) for poultry birds and in 10 States (Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan and Punjab) for crow/migratory/wild birds," an official statement said.

In Punjab, other than poultry, bird flu has been confirmed as the cause of crow deaths as well. The Ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying has said in a statement that control and containment operations are being administered in the affected areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Haryana that are epicentres of the flu. It also said that all states are following the norms of Revised Action Plan for Preparedness, Control and Containment of Avian Influenza 2021 and reporting to the Department regularly.

The Department has also asked the civil aviation ministry to allow transportation of the samples suspected for the bird flu so that tests can be done faster and action can be taken accordingly.
