100 chickens died in the thane district!


Bird Flu Scare in Maharashtra's Thane area. After about 100 chickens died suddenly at the farm in Vehloli village of Shahapur tehsil in Thane district.


According to an ANI input, Thane district magistrate and collector Rajesh J Narvekar said the district animal husbandry department has been ordered to take measures to control the infection, adding samples of the dead birds have been sent to Pune-based laboratory for testing.


According to the statement given by Dr. Bhausasheb Dangde, "Around 100 birds died at the poultry farm in Vehloli village in Shahapur tehsil recently.

 

Their samples were sent to a Pune-based laboratory for testing and the results confirmed that they died due to H5N1 avian influenza," said the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Thane Zilla Parishad. 


However, district officials started the operation of poultry in and around the area on Friday as a precautionary measure.An official from the state animal husbandry department said a survey had been started in the adjoining villages also to ascertain the spread of the infection and a report will be tabled by afternoon.


According to the statement given by an official, said, "Hundreds of poultry are being culled in and around Velholi area of Shahpur in rural Thane Friday morning after samples of a few birds that dropped dead over the last one week tested positive for avian influenza.

 

We will issue a notification elaborating the findings. There is no reason for residents to panic."


On Wednesday, World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) suggested that Bihar reported an outbreak of the highly contagious H5N1 bird flu virus on a poultry research farm.


The virus killed 787 out of 3,859 birds on the farm in Patna and all of the remaining birds were slaughtered, the Paris-based OIE said, citing a report from India's authorities.
