Bosphorus boxing tournament: Nikhat Zareen, Gaurav Solanki settle for bronze

Nikhat Zareen had defeated world champions Paltceva Ekaterina of Russia and Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan to reach the semifinals of the tournament.


Indian pugilists Nikhat Zareen (51 kg) and Gaurav Solanki (57 kg) settled for bronze medals after losing in their respective semifinals at the Bosphorus boxing tournament held in Istanbul. Ms Zareen had defeated world champions Paltceva Ekaterina of Russia and Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan to reach the semifinals of the tournament. Unfortunately, she lost 0-5 to 2019 World Championship silver medallist Busenaz Cakiroglu of Turkey in the semifinal on Friday.

In the beginning round, both boxers played in a neutral mode but in the next rounds, the two were seen in the attack mode. However, the Turkey boxer landed more punches and secured the position. Meanwhile, in the men's category, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Gaurav Solanki also lost 0-5 to Nirco Cuello of Argentina. India settled the campaign with two bronze medals.
