BPL Leaders Manchester City Goes 12 Points Clear After Winning Over Brentford

City defeated Brentford by 2-0, to win fourth league title in 5 years

Manchester City defeated Brentford by 2-0 to go 12 points clear at the top table. The win over Brentford also ensured their 4th league title in 5 years.

Liverpool has two games in hand to try and cut that gap, but City has dropped only two points in the league in 14 games stretching back to October.

Pep Guardiola’s side extended their undefeated run in the league to 14 matches thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s first-half penalty and Kevin De Bruyne’s strike at the interval at Etihad Stadium.

City was held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton in their previous league game, but they got back on track to pile the pressure on second-place Liverpool, who host Leicester in their upcoming match.

"That was a tough game," City coach Pep Guardiola said. "They defend in the high press, then deep and compact. There was no space between midfield and attack. We had to be patient and not make any mistakes.

"It was an important victory in a tough game that we expected. We are in a good position. I don't know if we are the best, but we are happy to be on 60 points."

City made 6 changes to the team that beat Fulham in the FA Cup last weekend, with Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker dropped just days after Guardiola was forced to defend the pair for a night out in Manchester.

Manchester City last lost their game in October against Crystal Palace by 2-0since then they have won their last six Premier League home games by an aggregate score of 20-4 ahead of Brentford’s visit.
