Mumbai based comedian Munawar Faruqi and four others were arrested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Friday. The others arrested include Prakhar Vyas, Priyam Vyas, Nailn Yadav and the event coordinator Edwin Anthony. Faruqi was performing at a café near the 56 Dukan area on New Year’s Eve when a group of Hindu Raksha Sanstha entered the venue and created a ruckus as they alleged that the comedian made indecent remarks on the Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The complaint was filed by Eklavya Singh Gaur, who is the son of a local BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur based on which the police arrested the comedian and four other event organizers, said the police.

Gaur had gone to the event as an audience along with his associates where they objected to the comments and created a ruckus over it and forcefully stopped the event.  They then took all the five of them to the police station and allegedly roughed them up and later filed a First Information Report (FIR) against all of them. In a video clip of the incident it shows the group manhandling the comedians in the crowd. The in charge of the Tukoganj police station in Indore, Kamlesh Sharma  said according to the FIR the event at the café was organized without permissions, there was no system of social distancing and the alleged remarks passed there also hurt the religious sentiments.
