Commercial LPG cylinder price hiked by Rs 266, to cost over Rs 2,000 in Delhi


A 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 2,000.50 in Delhi, up from Rs 1,734 earlier. It has also increased to Rs 1,950 in Mumbai, Rs 2073.50 in Kolkata and Rs 2,133 in Chennai.

State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have hiked commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder rates by Rs 266 on Monday.

A 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 2,000.50 in Delhi, earlier it was Rs 1,734. It has also increased to Rs 1,950 in Mumbai, Rs 2073.50 in Kolkata and Rs 2,133 in Chennai.

The decision has received sharp criticism on Twitter as it will hurt business activity during the ongoing festive season. Higher commercial LPG cylinder rates will more likely to impact the restaurant sector, which was already hit hard by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Customers may also have to pay more for eating out or ordering food due to the hike as restaurants may pass on the burden.

DOMESTIC LPG CYLINDERS

While commercial LPG cylinder rates were hiked sharply, domestic cooking gas prices have not been hiked today. This hike, however, does not affect household consumers as the prices of commercial cylinders have been increased only.

A 14.2-kg LPG cylinder continues to retail at Rs 899.50 in the national capital, Rs 926 in Kolkata and Rs 915.50 in Chennai. on Earlier on October 6, Domestic LPG cylinder prices were last increased. Experts tracking crude oil prices feel that domestic LPG cylinder prices could also see a steep rise soon due to prevailing global rates. In 2021, domestic LPG cylinder prices have been increased 8 times. The price in Delhi has increased from Rs 694 to Rs 899.50.

The sharp rise in domestic and commercial cooking gas prices is an extra burden for businesses and citizens who are already dealing with the burden of high fuel prices. In Delhi, petrol is being retailed at Rs. 109.69 per litre, while a litre of diesel is costing Rs. 98.42 per litre. At the same time, petrol prices in Mumbai have reached Rs. 115.50 per litre, while diesel is being retailed at Rs. 106.62 per litre.
