New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wished the lone survivor of the Tamil Nadu military chopper crash, Group Captain Varun Singh, a "quick and complete" recovery, and said that the nation stands with him on his road to recovery.

Mr Gandhi expressed his wishes by his Tweet, "Wishing quick and complete recovery to Group Captain Varun Singh. India stands with you on this road to recovery."

According to the Indian Air Force official, Group Captain Singh's medical condition continues to be critical, but he is stable.

On Thursday, Group Captain Singh was shifted to Air Force Command hospital in Bengaluru from Wellington's Military Hospital for further treatment.

The Group Captain was recently conferred with the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind for his act of exceptional gallantry.

The heartwrenching incident took 13 lives including, India's First Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat.

On December 8, 2021, the saddened incident took place within 30 mins when the Air Chief and 12 others took off from the Air Force base in Sulur, at 11.45 am, Coimbatore. The chopper was on its way to Wellington in Nilgiri Hills, where General Rawat was to address a gathering at the Defence Services Staff College.

The Mi-17 V5 helicopter was making its descent and would have landed in 10 more minutes when it came down, barely 10 km from a road. The Air Force has now ordered an Inquiry into what happened.

On Friday, Gen Bipin Rawat with 12 others cremated with full military honours at the Brar Square Crematorium Delhi.
