Cop, Municipal Councillor killed in attack in Sopore

Terrorists opened fire during an urban local meeting in Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.


A police personnel and a municipal councillor were killed and another councillor got injured after terrorists opened fire during an urban local body meeting in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday afternoon, the police said, according to NDTV. The terrorists attacked the building after councillors gathered for the meeting.

''Terrorists fired at Municipal Office Sopore. In this terror incident, police personnel Shafqat Ahmad & councillor Riyaz Ahmad got martyred & councillor Shams-ud-din Peer got injured. Injured shifted to hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off & further details shall follow,” said a tweet from the Kashmir Zone Police account.

Soon after the attack, police officials were rushed to the spot to track the terrorists but reportedly, they managed to escape. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu condemned the attack.
