COVAXIN Vaccine At Final Stage : Health Minister Harsh Vardhan

On Sunday, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said that COVAXIN would take month or two for distribution.

On Sunday, The Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said that India is all set for locally-developed vaccine to start within a month or two like it at the final stage of completion. It will be a hope for controlling the pandemic COVID-19 which has swallowed millions.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and privately-held Bharat Biotech this month started third-stage trials of COVAXIN, in a process that would involve 26,000 volunteers.

COVAXIN would be the most advanced vaccine to date for Indian experiments. According to a web conference on the pandemic, Harsh Vardan said: "We are in the process of developing our indigenous vaccines, in the process of completing our third-phase trials in the next one or two months."

He also mentioned during the web conference that, the govt. had planned to distribute the vaccine which can immunise 200 million to 250 million Indians by July.

An ICMR scientist told Reuters earlier this month the vaccine might be launched in Feb or March, though Bharat Biotech separately told Reuters on Friday that results of the third section was expected between March and Apr.

Meanwhile, according to the health minister, in Sept the govt might take emergency vaccine authorisation, particularly for the elderly and people in high-risk workplaces. According to officers COVAXIN is a viable option to manage COVID-19, as they are not expecting early access to sufficient quantities of these developed by Pfizer and Moderna.

Serum Institute of India's CEO said on Friday the AstraZeneca vaccine could be delivered to healthcare workers and the elderly by January.
