Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said the government was ready to announce a week-long closure across the country.  Quader, who is also the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, made the announcement at a forum from his residence on Saturday morning.

"All offices and courts will be closed at this time but factories and mills will continue to operate in rotation," Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain said in a statement confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Asked why industries and mills would be kept operating during the closure, the minister replied: "If we close the mills then workers would have to leave their workplaces and head home.''
