COVID-19 Reaches The End Of Earth Since Outbreak

Antarctica gets hit by Corona Virus since the outbreak of the pandemic last year

The last continent Antarctica which was previously free from the global pandemic had now received the novel corona virus. This information was first given by the military of Chile this week as the heath officials and army personnel grope one’s way to clear out and put the staff to quarantine from a remote research station which is surrounded by oceans and icebergs.

According to the report given by the military of Chile at least 36 people have been infected so far at its Bernardo O’Higgins base which includes 26 army personnel and 10 civilian contractors who were conducting maintenance at the base research station. The Chile’s army operates the permanently staffed research station in the north most Antarctica which lies in the tip of the peninsula often surrounded with icebergs.

The Chilean army said that there had been no complications so far as the base personnel “are already properly isolated and constantly monitored by the health authorities in Magallanes. The world’s most remote military and research station Antarctica in the recent month had gone an extra mile to keep out the virus by suspending tourism, scaling back activities and lockdown facilities among the staff.

The British Antarctica Survey along with the researchers surveyed that an estimate of 1000 people in 38 stations across the frozen continent had safely navigated the winters of the southern hemisphere without any occurrence but since the spring and the early summer the removal of suspension of the travel facilities put the region at higher risk of contracting with the virus.

The press officer of the army said that the first case of COVID-19 was reported in mid-December when two of their soldiers fell sick. Most of the regions which are confounded by cold winds from the oceans, mountains and glaciers had been under restrictions of quarantine for several months.

Three cases of COVID-19 have been detected among the 208 crew members of a ship that was sailing in the Antarctica region between November 27 to December 10 reported to the Navy of Chile.
