Covid-19 vaccine for children to be available by September: AIIMS Chief

"As early as September, we should see children being vaccinated," said AIIMS Chief


The country is witnessing an increase in Covid-19 cases in a few states due to which fear of the third wave of the disease is also triggering. It is said that the third wave is likely to hit children who fall in younger age group. It is a risky situation as children have not been administered with the Covid-19 vaccine yet.

On Saturday, AIIMS Chief Randeep Guleria said that children in India can start getting vaccinated by September 2021. "As early as September, we should see children being vaccinated," he said.

According to his statement to NDTV he said that Pfizer and Zydus vaccines should be soon available for children.

Meanwhile, experts are anticipating that the third wave of Covid-19 may hit children very hard. It said that vaccinating the younger lot is likely to strengthen the fight against Covid-19. Whereas All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is all set to start its second dose clinical trial of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for the 2 to 6 years age group. According to the report it said, "The second dose of Covid-19 vaccine has already been given to children aged between 6 to 12 years."

According to ANI, AIIMS Chief mentioned, "It seems that we probably need the booster dose of Covid -19 vaccine as with the passage of time the immunity tends to fall. There is waning immunity. We would like to have a booster dose that will cover various emerging variants."
