Covid cases rises, cross 1,000 New Cases

19 deaths in 7 days, last week...


On Saturday for first time in 130 days, Covid-19 in India crossed 1,000 cases, as the case count, after hitting 500 mark in a week, India witnessed most of the new cases, in South and infections have started rising in the north as well.

 

Since November 9 last year first time the daily count had topped 1,000 on Saturday India reported 1,071 new cases. In last week nearly 5,000 new cases have been recorded. The country reported 19 Covid deaths during this period, up from six in the preceding period.

 

Rising from 353 on March 10 to 704 on March 18, as per TOI’s Covid database the seven-day average of daily Covid cases in India has doubled in the last eight days.  Previous week the doubling rate was close to 12 days, which indicates that the virus have spread more rapidly in the current week.

 

Number of active cases in the country on Sunday had crossed 6,000, rising from 3,778 last Sunday. The test positivity rate (TRP) the percentage of test samples that are positive — was still low for the country as a whole, which indicates that cases aren’t rising yet in many parts of India. On Saturday the daily trp crossed 1%, however the seven-dag average was around 0.8% which is rising gradually.

 

Maharashtra displaced Karnataka as the state recording the highest number of fresh cases in past week. 1,165 new infection reported in Maharashtra. 739 cases reported in Kerala, increase from 520. 

 

In Gujarat the rise in numbers wete highest, which reported 660 cades in the seven-day period till Saturday, a 3.5 times increase over the last seven days when the city had recorded 190 cases.
