Covid negative report required to enter Bengaluru from April 1

The city reported 1,400 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday which is the highest number of daily cases in last four months.

Travellers coming from outside Karnataka will have to show a negative RT-PCR test report from April 1 before entering Bengaluru, announced Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Thursday. The city reported 1,400 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday which is the highest number of daily cases in last four months.

"Cases are likely to rise in the coming days. More than 60 per cent of Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru are interstate travellers," said Dr Sudhakar. The sudden rise in the number of cases prompted the minister to call for a meeting with the eight joint commissioners of BBMP on Thursday morning. He added that marshals will be stationed at all public places such as theatres, markets, marriage halls etc to keep a check on everyone and to ensure social distancing and other Covid related protocols.

Dr Sudhakar added that hands of infected people will be stamped in order to distinguish them from disinfected ones. He clarified that lately 3,000 to 4,000 people have started attending weddings while orders were only for 500 in total. The state government will now allow only 200 people for closed-door events and 500 for outdoor events.
