Dead Dolphin Washes Ashore Mumbai’s Beach

A dead dolphin was found washed ashore the Juhu Beach in Mumbai on Friday morning, an official said.

Some local residents saw the dead dolphin in Juhu Chowpatty and reported it to local authorities, who in turn reported about the incident to the Forestry Department, an official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

"The forest authorities then disposed of the body," said the official, adding that the forest authorities may have the detailed information about the species of this dolphin. Talking to sources, local corporator Renu Hansraj claimed the dolphin was found on Friday morning and said that it was smaller than the usual size.

"This dolphin was smaller compared to dolphin carcasses that have been found off the coast of the city in the past," said the corporator.

Earlier this year, many dead dolphins washed ashore at various points along the city's west coast

Although dolphins appear to be fish, they are classified as marine mammals.
