Delhi Govt. to hire 550 buses from private operators to prevent pollution rates.

Kejriwal Govt. allows standing passengers in Buses and Metros.

New Delhi: The capital has been trapped in the dense smog since Post-Diwali night. Delhi Govt. has put many efforts to get rid of increasing pollution rates. According to an official, around 550 buses hired by the Delhi government from private operators will start playing on the city roads under "Paryawaran Sewa" from today. This step will help people switch from using private vehicles to public transport because of the alarming air quality in the national capital.

Also, the Kejriwal Govt. lately decided to hire 1,000 CNG buses from private operators. According to an administrator of the transport department said, "So far, over 750 buses have been registered, of which nearly 550 will be pressed into service under Paryawaran Sewa from Monday on different routes. These buses will augment public transport by increasing the frequency on various routes with a high passenger load."

He added that the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Cluster scheme of the DIMTS run around 7,000 buses in the city. Still, official estimates put the requirement by the current demand to over 11,000 buses.

This step has been taken to control the rise in pollution rates within the capital. Due to thick clouds of dust and pollutants, the Delhites are suffering from itchy throats and watery eyes.

According to the AAP leader, the buses hired from the private operators will encourage people using their vehicles to opt for public transport.

Given the alarming levels of air pollution in the city, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Saturday allowed standing passengers in buses and metro.
