Hugo’s death comes just 13 months after his brother’s death

Diego Maradona’s younger brother Hugo Maradona passed away at the age of 52 following a heart attack.

Hugo passed away on Tuesday in Naples, just over a year after the death of his elder brother Diego.

Hugo was seen at the Maradona stadium in Naples to take part in a ceremony in memory of his late brother and footballing legend only one month ago.

Hugo Maradona played for the Argentina U-16 team in 1985 and was bought by Napoli in 1987on Diego’s urging and was loaned to Ascoli. He also played for Rayo Vallecano, Rapid Vienna and several other clubs around the world.

The club said Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the team “come together around Maradona’s family and unite with them in the pain of Hugo's death.”

The youngest of the Maradona brothers - the others being Diego and Raul - Hugo was also a keen footballer and signed as a junior for Napoli aged 18 in 1987.

On September 20, 1987, the two brothers played against each other with Diego's Napoli coming out on top 2-1.

Hugo went on to play in minor leagues in Spain, Austria and Venezuela before ending his playing career in Japan in the late 1990s.

After that, he turned to coaching and was involved in several youth academies.

Hugo Maradona was happily married to his wife Paola Morra. The duo tied the knot in the year 2016. Always by his side she never missed a beat of her husband’s success and fame.

The couple seemed to have a strong relationship as they were spotted together in several locations. Hugo and his wife Paola shared 5 years of prosperous married life and three children.
