Diwali - A Triumph of the light over darkness

Diwali is observed on 4th Nov 2021 this year, firecrackers are banned in some states of the country.

Living in a much-diversified country allows everyone to celebrate the festivals, culture and traditions altogether. The Festival of light - "Diwali" is one of the most rejoiceful Hindu festivals celebrated by almost every citizen. Diwali brings a joy of new light towards success, achievement, happiness and hope. This festival is observed on 4th November 2021this year.

According to the Hindu belief, Diwali signifies the spiritual "triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Also, in Hindu mythology, the festival is associated with Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, with many other regional traditions connecting the holiday to Sita and Rama, Vishnu, Krishna, Yama etc. Moreover, in many parts of the country, the celebration is done as Lord Rama returned his empire Ayodhya with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana after destroying Ravana in Lanka and serving 14 years of exile.

As the festival of the light consists of 5 days of continuous celebration, it requires a lot of pre-preparations. People enhance their houses by cleaning, renovating, and decorating their homes and workplaces with diyas and rangolis. The celebrants burst lots of firecrackers to celebrate.

This year, due to the urge of the pandemic several states have imposed restrictions on firecrackers and also declared Covid-19 measures for controlling virus spread. While some states have banned firecrackers, others have imposed a partial ban on green crackers.

So, to reduce the effect of the pandemic the celebrants have decided to make this Diwali environment-friendly. Some Visually-impaired workers make candles ahead of Diwali, in a workshop of the Blind School Relief Association in New Delhi. Many NGOs are working to help the needy to provide them food and shelter this Diwali. Celebrants are ready to work for the needy this year.
