Diwali cracker explosion kills two and injures one

Aiming for a bigger explosion the victims bury and place stones on cracker before lighting it up, causes explosion


On Thursday, in a tragic incident on Diwali two men died while another one suffered injury after a cracker explosion at Kandikal in Chatrinaka of Hyderabad. The accident was an unfortunate turn of events as the trio aimed for a bigger explosion.

 

In their bid to get a bigger bang from their mix of crackers, they buried them and placed stones and then lit the fire. The massive explosion sent stone splinters flying, injuring one and killing two as they were hit on the skull. The loud band led to panic in the area for a short while.

 

The victims who died has been identified as Jagannath Malik (25) and Vishnupadha Mahato (25) from West Bengal while the one injured is Virender Kumar from Uttar Pradesh. All three of them were idol-makers and the incident happened at their idol making unit at around 11pm.

 

“The men had made a small pit and buried some joint crackers along with other explosives. The crackers led to a massive explosion causing stones, splinters to fly and hit them in the head. The victims were instantly killed as their skull suffer fractures,” said Syed Abdul Khader Jilani, SHO, Chatrinaka.

 

There were other people too present at the unit who escaped unhurt for they were sitting at a distance said the police. Police added that they are checking whether the victims mixed some extra chemicals in crackers used in idol making. A CLUES team was called in to check the explosives. The investigation is underway.
