AQI on Monday touched to "Very poor" category


On Monday, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned about the burning of firecrackers this Diwali. The air quality index (AQI) is taking a shift towards deteriorating conditions in the capital city. The India Meteorological Department has warned that the air quality on 5th and 6th November is expected to be in a very poor category.

According to ANI, VK Soni, stated, "Till November 4, air quality is expected to be in poor category”. It could dip to the very poor category on November 5 to 6 due to northwesterly winds and bursting of crackers”.

 

As per the statement, the IMD predicted that the air quality will improve to the upper end of poor due to the expected change in Wind direction to westerly/ southwesterly reducing the transport of emissions from stubble burning.

 

In the arrival of Diwali festival, the Delhi Government has imposed a ban on the sale of firecrackers after witnessing a deteriorating condition in the capital city. The Air Quality index on Monday touched 302 which are categorized under the very poor category.  Delhi generally suffers a choked environment during pre and post-Diwali due to firecrackers.

 

It is also seen stubble burning in the nearby states add on to the increase of pollution level in the National capital.

 

Environment minister, Gopal Rai also urged school going kids to Say No to Diwali firecrackers in order to save the environment from getting polluted. Meanwhile, many leaders and ministers are  running several Campaigns in the city to control the pollution level.
