Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 hits Gadchiroli-Telangana border

The National Center for Seismology stated an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude, depth of 77km, originating at latitude 19.00 and longitude 79.96 at 6:48pm


On Sunday, Maharashtra’s Sironcha taluka of Gadchiroli close to Telangana border was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale. Gadchiroli collector Sanjay Meena stated that there was no loss of human life or damage to property.

The National Centre for Seismology (ministry of earth science) confirmed the event with a depth of 77km, originating at latitude 19.00 and longitude 79.96 at 6:48pm. The epicentre of the earthquake has been reported as per latitude and longitude on the Gadchiroli and Telangana border near Jafrabad chak, close to Pranhita River in Sironcha Taluka.

The collector said that the official communication is expected from the concerned departments. “We will share the details of the event as soon as the official communication reaches us. So far, we have just received the confirmation,” said Meena. A resident shared that the people rushed out of their houses out of fear but apparently it ended even before they could realize. As per sources the residents of Sironcha felt the floor and furniture tremble inside the house for around five to ten seconds.

As per reports, the earthquake was felt at the adjoining talukas of Aheri and Ashti too. The impact of the earthquake was felt in some parts of Telangana too, up till Belampalli said a source. Eventhe earthquake was felt in some areas of Mancherial and Kagaznagar.

It has been the third quake near Nagpur city in October this year.  The first quake of 3.7 magnitude was occurred near 15 km away from Seoni of Madhya Pradesh on October 1. The second tremor was observed on October 4 of 3.6 magnitude 4.9 km away from Seoni city. In 2020, on October 31, two earthquakes of 3.1 and 3.5 magnitude jolted Seoni district back-to-back which were also felt in Nagpur district.
