Farmer Mark 1 Year of Continuous Protest Today

Despite PM's announcement of repealing Farm law, the farmers hold large gatherings in the country

New Delhi: The Farmer Protest has marked a one-year-long of continuous protest. According to the sources, Farmers are expected to hold demonstrations on Delhi borders and other parts of the country on Friday.

Recently, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi announced that "three farm laws" would be withdrawn. PM Modi also extended his apologies and urged the farmers to return to their homes and fields. Despite that, the farmer's front has declared to protest until and unless the Modi Govt. withdraws the farm laws officially.

The farmer's front has organised many rallies, hold several events and protests across the country on Friday.

According to sources, the farmer's front will hold a large gathering on Delhi borders today to mark 1 complete year of protest.

According to the officials of Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of various farm unions initiating the ongoing stir, on Thursday said that thousands of farmers are arriving in Delhi to mark one year of the protests.

The SKM officials also added, "Farmers and workers are responding in huge numbers. Thousands of farmers have started arriving at the various morchas in Delhi."

The protesters will block highways in Karnataka. In Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, trade unions have declared that they would join the farmers at the protests being held at district headquarters.

Tractor rallies will be taken out in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal.

The protest began with the "Dilli Chalo" campaign on November 26 last year. Since then, thousands of farmers have gathered at the borders of the capital New Delhi, in one of the biggest challenges for the Modi Govt. since he came to power in 2014.

The rollback of the laws comes just ahead of critical elections in states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
