Farmers build brick building at Delhi border

Farmer protest update

Braving the harsh weather conditions, farmers have decided to construct brick houses to protect themselves from severe summer conditions in future.

Protesters at the Delhi borders anticipated a long haul and took the decision of constructing brick building to save the agitating farmers from the scorching summer heat. The construction of the two-storey house started on Wednesday on a piece of government land near the protest site at Singhu border that is big enough to accommodate over 100 protesters, reported The Times of India.

Reportedly, according to the farmers they will apply for a temporary electricity connection but will switch to generators if their request is denied. The farm organisation president Manjit Singh told TOI that somehow they managed to get through the chilly winter but the summer season poses more problems especially the threat of getting vector-borne diseases due to mosquitoes.

According to NDTV, protesters can be seen constructing houses on their own at Tikri border near Haryana. Reportedly, they are paying for the construction material but not for labour and the estimated cost for each house is around Rs 20,000-25,000. Until now, tractors were being used as temporary shelters but farmers had to send back their tractors to the villages as the harvest season is around the corner. Farmers have been protesting since November against the three farm laws with the demand of repeal of the laws.
