Farmers' union suspends Yogendra Yadav for visiting family of BJP man killed in UP

Yogendra Yadav will not participate in any meetings of the farmers' union for a month.

The farmers' union has suspended senior leader of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) Yogendra Yadav for a month for visiting the family of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, Shubham Mishra, who was killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3. According to the SKM, a conglomerate of 46 farmers' bodies, Mr. Yadav will not participate in any of its meetings for a month.

Eight people were killed, including four farmers who were mowed down by a car that was part of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra's convoy. Reportedly, angry farmers beat four BJP workers to death who were travelling in one of the vehicles that allegedly ran over the protesting farmers.

The farmers' bodies demanded action against Yogendra Yadav following which, the SKM took the decision. Senior SKM leader Buta Singh Burjgill said that leaders of farm organisations wanted to permanently expel Mr. Yadav but he was only suspended for a month as he has apologised for his action, reported TOI. Mr. Yadav had even tweeted on his Twitter handle about his visit to the family of the deceased BJP worker.

Farmer bodies have alleged that Union Minister's son, Ashish Mishra was in one of the cars that had mowed down the protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. He had appeared before the Crime Branch office on October 9 and had been arrested after 12 hours of interrogation.

The farmer bodies have been demanding the resignation of the Union Minister and action against those who are responsible for the violence.
