FIFA cancels the U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020 event, rescheduled for 2022.

The Federation International of Football Association (FIFA) and All India Football Federation (AIFF) after holding a discussion announced that the Under-17 Women’s World Cup which was scheduled to be held next year had now been cancelled and has been rescheduled for 2022.

As per the earlier schedule the World Cup was to be held in November 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament was supposed to be held in the month of February and March 2021 in India after FIFA rescheduled it.

Currently there is not much clarity whether a new qualifying round will be held for the 2022 tournament but India hopes to qualify as hosts automatically. This year India has also been given hosting rights for the AFC Women’s Asia Cup 2022. If things go as planned India would be hosting two women’s football events  in the same year.

The federation has yet not acknowledged any plans to organize Nationals tournaments, any junior tournaments and also owing to the current Covid crisis, has no precision on next edition of the Indian Women’s League (IWL).
