FIR for insulting national flag against the deceased farmers’ family


A farmer had died in a road accident near the Ghazipur border protest site. In the latest development the mother and brother of the deceased farmer have been booked along another person for insulting the national flag allegedly after a video of his last rites showed him draped in the nation tri color flag, said the police today. Draping a tri color on a civilian is an offence according to the flag code of India. The police said that the farmer had gone to the Delhi-UP border of the farmers protest site where he died in a road accident.

Jai Prakash Jhadhav the Superintendent of Police said, “Baljinder, a resident of Bari Bujhia village in Sheramau area had gone to participate in the farmers’ agitation on January 23 with his friends. He died in a mishap on January 25 and his body was kept in a mortuary as that of an unidentified person. His family members came to know about the incident on February 2 and they brought the body here.” The SP further added “The family members covered the body with the national flag like that of a martyr and took it for the list rites on Thursday. The video of the last rites went viral on social media after which an FIR was registered against Baljinder’s mother, brother Gurvinder and one unidentified.”

Since November 26 thousand of farmers have been protesting at various locations at the protest site in the borders of Delhi where they have been repeatedly demanding the government to repeal the 3 farm laws that was enacted in September last year and also wants the government to guarantee the minimum support price for the crops. The government on the other hand has maintained that the farm laws are pro-farmeres.
