Fire breaks at Serum Institute of India(SII) in Pune.


On Thursday afternoon a fire broke out at the Terminal 1 gate of the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune. The fire was reported on the fifth floor of Manjri complex plant of the SII which produces the BCG vaccine.

A call was received by the mayor of Pune Murlidhar Mohol at around 2:50 pm and following this information 10 fire tenders and two extra water tankers were rushed to the spot without any delays. According to some prominent sources Manjiri complex where the fire broke is only a few minutes’ drive from the vaccine production facility. Around 8-9 buildings are under construction at the complex to deal with the pandemics in the future which aims to improve SII manufacturing capacities.

The Chief fire officer of PMC, Prashant Ranpaise said “There were 4 people inside the building. We have rescued 3 persons so far although smoke is hampering the work. The fire has so far spread to the third, fourth and fifth floors. We have sent fire tenders so far.
