Former Olympian Ahmed Hussain who was a member of the India team which finished fourth at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics died on Friday of covid.


Former Olympian Ahmed Hussain who was a member of the India team which finished fourth at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics died on Friday of covid.Born in Hyderabad also started his career in Hyderabad City Police, while side by side playing for the club he was selected in the Indian squad which took part in the 1951 Asian Games held in New Delhi and won the gold later most of his life was based in Bangalore, he was 86.

He did his college at Nizam College, Hyderabad, A Defender Ahmed Hussain is known for his tight marking and tight tackling, he also took part in the 1958 Asain Games in Tokyo, Japan. Additionally, he played the role of the coach in the Indian team for the President Cup in Seoul.

After retirement, Hussain joined the Sports Authority of India, he was deputed in Banglore where he settled himself there. He was one of the top defenders of the country. In a statement, Amalraj said “He excelled as a defender and was popularly known as the Great Wall of India’’.

Moreover, Karnataka State Footfall Association (KSFA) President N A Haris said: “We have lost another gem”.
