Four members of the family suffocates to death in fire

Except one entire family dies in massive house fire in Seemapuri, Delhi


Four family members were found dead in a massive house fire that took place in the early hours today at 4 in the morning. The fire broke out in a building in Delhi’s old Seemapuri area. The fire department was called following which four fire tenders arrived at the scene to bring the fire under control.

The fire broke out at the top floor of a three-storey building. The incident most likely to have taken place at 3 am when they were all sleeping on the second floor. As per reports, the fire was caused by a mosquito coil catching fire and filling up with smoke. By the time the family member’s bodies were recovered from the fire they were already dead.

The victims are identified as 58-year-old Horilal who was a Class IV employee in Shashtri Bhavan, his 55-year-old wife Reena who was a sweeper in the Municipal Corporation. Their children, 24-year-old Anshu was looking for a job and 18-year-old daughter Rohini was in 12th standard in a government school, were all found dead. While their another son, Akshay a 22-year-old who works as a laborer was sleeping on the first floor survived for the fire was contained to the top floor where the rest of the family was sleeping.

All the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and reports are awaited. The police have registered a case under 436 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code. They added that the deaths were likely due to asphyxiation but an investigation is currently underway.
