General Rawat's Daughters to take his "Asthi" to Haridwar

After cremation, CDS' daughters wishes to do the final rites in Haridwar


New Delhi: General Bipin Rawat and 12 others including his wife met with a heart-wrenching chopper crash. A day after India bid a sombre farewell to the country's first Chief Defence of Staff; Gen Rawat's daughters will take his ashes to Haridwar today for immersion as part of rituals. 

 

In a report of news agency ANI, the ashes were collected from Delhi's Brar Square crematorium this morning, where the last rites were performed by General Rawat's daughters - Kritika and Tarini.

On Friday, General Rawat, 63, and his wife Madhulika was cremated with full military honours at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment after a solemn procession from his house on a ceremonial gun carriage.

 

Top political leaders like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Cong Leader Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the CDS' Rawat house to pay their final respect during their last rites.

 

Talking to the media, in a report of ANI, youngest daughter of General Rawat, Tarini said, "After the cremation today at Delhi Cantonment's crematorium, we will be taking his 'asthi' (ashes) to Haridwar tomorrow."

 

"We will be taking his ashes, after the cremation, to Haridwar (in Uttarakhand) tomorrow. Our family members will be going to the holy town to immerse his 'asthi' (ashes) into the Ganga river," Vijay Rawat, his brother, further said.

 

On Thursday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh talked about the tragic incident in the Parliament, "The chopper crash in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday that claimed 13 lives will be investigated by tri-service inquiry headed by Air Force's senior-most helicopter pilot Air Marshal Manvendra Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Training Command."
