Government Employees Arrested for Taking Bribe

On 10 March 2023, the directorate of vigilance and the anti-corruption team caught two government employees red-handed for taking the bribe in Assam.

 

According to Rajib Saikia, CPRO of Assam, the arrested employees were identified as Kanak Chandra Baruah and Lat Mandal, who work in the office of the revenue circle officer of Kalaigaon in Udalguri district, along with Dilip Borah (the headman of the village) in Gaonburah of No. 1 Amguri in Assam.

 

As per the complaint received by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption office, the government employees had demanded Rs. 10,000 as a bribe for processing the land mutation document of the complainant. After bargaining, they reduced the amount to 5,000.

 

Following the complaint, the team planned to catch them red-handed and arrested Dilip Borah immediately after he accepted the bribe amount of Rs. 4,500. With the help of the same planned operation, they also caught Kanak Chandra Baruah and Lat Madal in the same complaint after getting enough evidence.

 

The police have registered a case under Sections 120 B and IPC 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 at ABC Police Station.
