Government should back private sector to make India Self Reliant: PM Modi

Government planning to back private sector

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi optimistically affirmed the need for a solid policy framework in order to resurrect the deteriorating economy, braving the ravages of the coronavirus pandemic. Referring to this manifestation, he also stressed on the significance of Centre and state cohesion. In this regard, he also urged the notion in the sixth meeting of Niti Aayog that the Private sector should receive wholehearted support of both state and central government for its growth.

"Both the central and state government should undertake measures to solidify the foundations of the private sector and inculcate their contributions in Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self Reliant India)," he suggested in the meeting which witnessed the presence of Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of states and Union Territories. Taking inspiration from the mutual cooperation demonstrated by both Centre and states in subdual times of pandemic he added, "We reshaped and rebuilt the crumbling nation and are still trying to emerge invincible. On the global platform we are known for our dedication and coordination between centre and state government. Both governments work together to make cooperative federalism meaningful. We should aim to bring this competitive, cooperative federalism among districts too." In the meeting, Punjab's Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Bengal's Mamata Banerjee were among notable absentees.

Ms Banerjee has skipped the Niti Aayog meetings claiming them as "fruitless" and accusing the government of lacking financial power to support the plans of states. Mr Singh is indisposed as reported by the News Press Agency of India. PM Modi underlined the Ease of doing Business to grab global opportunities along with highlighting "Ease of living". He brought up the good initiatives of government for upliftment of citizens like opening bank accounts, boost in vaccination and health facilities, free electricity and gas connections which empowered the poor and transformed their lives.

"The compliance attitude people have towards this year's budget has glorified their desire to see rapid progress in the nation without losing time. Youth will play the major role in setting up the spirit of the nation," he said. Today's meeting revolved around agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, human resource development, service delivery at grassroots level and health and nutrition. This meeting saw a first time appearance of the newly formed Union Territory of Ladakh. Jammu and Kashmir also participated.
