Gujarat government issues SOPs for upcoming festivals; Night curfew in 8 major cities on Janmashtami

Lokmela and 'Matki fod' festivals relating to Janmashtami festival will not be allowed this time in the state, as per the Covid protocols.


A standard operating procedure (SOPs) was issued on Tuesday by the Gujarat government for the upcoming festivals of Janmashtami and Ganeshotsav in the state. During the festival season of Janmashtami and Ganeshotsav night curfew will be in force in the city.

A core council meeting was held by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani regarding the guidelines for the festival seasons. On Janmashtami- from midnight, 30th August to 1 am night curfew will be in place in 8 major cities of the state. Only 200 people will be allowed in the temple at a time. Lokmela and 'Matki fod' festivals relating to Janmashtami festival will not be allowed this time in the state, as per the Covid protocols, added CMO.

Taking care of the upcoming festival Ganesh Utsav, guidelines were prepared. From 9th September to 19th September, a 4-feet Ganesha statue will be placed in public, and a 2-feet statue in homes for “aarti purpose” and prasad will be distributed at pandals. Meanwhile, no other religion and cultural program is allowed to take place.

People can visit the temple only till 11 pm and for installation and dismantling of the Ganesha idol, a maximum of 15 people are allowed with single vehicle permission as per the order of CMO. From 9th September to 19th September, a night curfew will be implemented from midnight in these 8 major cities.
