Gurugram to receive an award for the garbage-free city

Award will be given on November 20 (Saturday)

Gurugram city will be given the award for the garbage-free city. The award will be provided by the Ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) on November 20 (Saturday) as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission(SBM).

According to the survey conducted last year, two cities of Haryana state including Gurugram and Rohtak were selected for the GFC award.  The GFC awards are provided based on its waste management system and resources.

According to the statement given by MCG officials, Anil Mehta, SBM consultant, "The GFC Award is recognition of the continuous efforts made by the MCG in the past few years to make the city cleaner and an acknowledgement that the policies and initiatives we introduced have brought about a positive change.  The city's rating will be declared at the time of felicitation on Saturday."

Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, Commissioner MCG said, "The MCG is continuously working towards making the city clean and beautiful.  Under the solid waste management rules 2016,  citizens have been asked to segregate Waste at the primary level itself and the only separate waste being collected continuous efforts are being made to promote home composting while the door to door collection system is being strengthened further."

From November 11 MCG made it compulsory for residents to segregate garbage into dry and wet waste. As per the report, zero waste day was introduced in December 2020. On this day the MCG only picks up wet waste from the house.

Many other cities have implemented cleanliness and hygiene programs all across the state to make India garbage-free and free from pollution and dust. Swacch Bharat was another mission to clean India and make it neat and clean.
