HC slams Delhi govt

The past few weeks have witnessed an appalling rise in COVID cases in the National Capital without any scope of improvement in deteriorating situations climbing to hazardous level. On Thursday Delhi High Court held, Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi responsible, for a lax response to the pandemic. The government's untimely and procrastinating response dragged the city into a havoc, which will require stricter efforts to control.

The HC criticised the government by bashing them for not taking appropriate steps when the curve climbed in the initial days of this month. "You are turning the turtle now as we have questioned you. You should have stepped on this door days ago when the spiralling began. Your lethargy had led the whole city in trouble," says Delhi HC according to PTI report. The bench also attacked their silence for over 18 days when the city was dealing with the mess. "Why do we have to force you out of slumber on Nov 11? Are you accountable for the lives lost in this period and ready to face their families? " asked the bench.

Delhi has been shrouded in a third wave of pandemic and facing a hard time to make peace with this sudden tremble. The festivities, hazardous pollution and negligence by people have pulled the situation out of control. On Tuesday, the government demanded Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to revise the head count in marriage from 200 to 50 who approved the same. Delhi recorded 7486 new cases on Wednesday in addition to 131 deaths. This is the highest number of fatalities faced by the city. At present the total case count stands at 5,03,084 comprising 42,458 active cases. The rate of recovery had dropped to 89.9% while death rate saw a rise of 1.58%.

Stressing on the gravity of the matter, HC imposed fines for not wearing masks and violating guidelines of social distancing, accounting to Rs. 500 for first violation and Rs. 1000 for every subsequent violation. This order is not effective to instill threat among citizens who are undeterred to fall in the vicious trap laid by coronavirus. For mankind's sake it is high time to enforce strict laws and a barring lockdown in the city to thrash the uprise swaying the recent reports. The government's stern action and people's cautious reaction could lead to a downfall.
