High demand for colours in markets This Time On Holi

Not a Grey Holi this year!

After the Ease in pandemic enforced restrictions amid decrease in fresh cases has led to a spurt in demand of Holi colours though a drop in production has kept a lid on supplies in retail.

Demand for Holi colours in Indore and from nearby districts of the state has jumped to pre Covid-19 levels said whole sellers.

Limited production of colours has prompted many wholesalers to stop taking advance bookings from retailers due to Covid effects.

Sanjay Choudhary, a whole seller of Holi colours in Malwa mills said, “We have stopped taking bookings from retailers a week ago because production is limited this year due to high number of Covid-19 cases back in December-January. That's the peak time for production but it got affected due to pandemic this time as well.”

Sellers of Holi colours said the permission for organising the Holi procession in Indore this year will also led to a spike in sales.

Indore is a major trading center from where Holi colours are supplied across the state.

Whole sellers of Holi colours said that the business this year may surpass previous years sale looking at the volume of advance bookings from retailers this year.

They said shops are placing fresh orders despite having inventories from past two years anticipating a sharp rise in demand.

Naresh Porwal, a retailer of Holi colours said, “Consumer sentiment is very high this festive season and this would be reflected in sales this Holi. Every shop is placing orders in bulk but availability is short due to limited production.”

Whole sellers said they are fulfilling orders placed at least a month back and not taking any fresh orders now.

Limited production has also led to a jump in prices of colours this season which are up by over 10-15 per cent depending upon the major brands.

Another retailer of colours from Patnipura said, “Demand is seen higher this season but the spike in prices may affect some percentage of sales in rural markets. A decline in supplies of colours from almost all brands has spiked the prices.”
