Iconic Howrah Bridge Lit, to celebrate the Olympic Spirit

The classic bridge built over the Hooghly River, takes initiative to boost the spirit of participants and the duration of lighting in the evening, from July 20 to August 8.


The Iconic Howrah Bridge, in Kolkata was illuminated with Olympic colors today to celebrate the spirit of sports along with tough circumstances this year due to Covid-19 pandemic protocols. The vintage 78-year-old bridge has been decked in blue, black, green and yellow, colour lights. The vivid lighting of Howrah Bridge is an initiative taken by Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, under the Ministry of Ports.

The 2021 olympics due to happen in Tokyo will begin on July 23. The city has been adorned with Tokyo 2020 flags and advertising, and futuristic Olympic and Paralympic mascots are plastered on buses and buildings.

However the infection cases in Tokyo have resulted in the closure of all public viewing events. The country is under a state of emergency that mandates restaurants and bars to shut by the evening at 8:00 pm. when the opening ceremony begins and they are banned from serving alcohol as per the regulations.
