IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai and Thane

IMD has issued a red alert for Palghar as there are chances of extremely heavy rainfall in the area.


The country is witnessing heavy rains that has left some places flooded with water. The water level in some areas also crossed the danger mark.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai city and Thane predicting heavy rainfall till 8 September (Wednesday). It said since Tuesday evening, the three districts of Maharashtra- Mumbai, Thane and Palghar have been receiving moderate to heavy rains. It has also been predicted that these heavy rains will continue till Wednesday. Whereas a red alert has been predicted for Palghar as there are chances of extremely heavy rainfall.

According to the collectors, they appealed to people not to unnecessarily come out and not to travel much near overflowing rivers and bridges. People have been advised to keep sufficient stock of essential items at home and protect electric meters in their buildings from floodwaters.  Meanwhile, the authorities have also asked the people who are staying near the rivers to be on alert and shift to safer places if the water level rises in the area.
