IMD issues orange alert for Tamil Nadu

Chennai is about to receive heavy rainfall.


 The India Meteorological Department (IMD)  predicts heavy rainfall in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu state from November 9.

As per the statement given by the department, it predicted the cyclonic circulation over the south bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman seas, extending up to 5.8 km above the sea level. Around 14 districts are under orange alert including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, theni,tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chennai,ranipet, Vellore, chengalpattu, kallakurichi, mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and selam are under orange alert.


According to the PTI, on November 8, over 60 houses have been damaged, 4 people lost their lives. The deaths due to rain-related incidents took place in Chennai,theni and Madurai districts.  


Heavy rain has lashed the city completely with water. Some areas of the states are witnessing water logging issues and also some areas are facing difficulty in travelling and commuting. Many houses have been submerged, Puducherry is also facing lots of damages in houses due to this incessant rainfall in the state. As per the report, there was water up to two feet in low lying areas power supply was hampered for several neighbourhoods. Police stations witnessed flooding waters. Adambakkam had to be shifted to a temporary building and around 75 trees got uprooted there and these are getting cleared by the civic personnel.


Due to the forecast, the state government has asked the school and colleges to remain closed on Tuesday.
