Kohli led side registered their first-ever win in Centurion

India has done it again, as they have registered 113 runs win over South Africa in the first Test at SuperSport Park on Thursday. The win is also India’s first-ever Test victory at the venue. India is now leading the series by 1-0 in a three-match Test series.

India recorded their fourth Test victory over South Africa in 21 matches in South Africa. India’s other victories over the Proteas came at Johannesburg by 123 runs in 2006, by 87 runs at Durban in 2010 and by 63 runs at Johannesburg in 2018.

Former Indian player Dinesh Karthik congratulated India on Twitter, “Started the year with Gabba and ending it with centurion! Congratulations on the historic Test win #TeamIndia. What a brilliant performance to beat the hosts in such a good manner.”

India defeated Australia at Gabba earlier this year to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Virat Kohli became the fourth skipper after South African Graeme Smith (53 wins in 109 Tests), Australian Ricky Ponting (48 wins in 77 Tests) and Steve Waugh (41 wins in 57 Tests) to win 40 or more Test matches. Kohli’s 40th win came in the 67 Test matches. 24 of his 40 wins came in 31 Test matches in India while 16 victories were recorded in 36 Test matches outside India.

Chasing a target of 305 runs, the hosts were bundled out for 191 in 68 overs in the second innings.

Shami took a total of eight wickets in the match but Indian vice-captain KL Rahul was awarded the man of the match award for providing the best possible start in this match. Rahul scored his 7th test century. It was his second Test century this year and the first against South Africa.
