India's R Praggnanandhaa, Beats World No.1, Magnus Carlsen, In Online Chess Tournament

'You have made India Proud,' Sachin Tendulkar Congratulates


16 years young talented R Praggnanandhaa has made India Proud with his talent. During the eighth round of an online rapid chess tournament Airthings Masters, he stunned World Champion Magnus Carlsen in just 39 moves to put an end to Carlsen’s three straight wins.


Praggnanandhaa beat 31-year-old Carlsen – the current number 1 in the world - in a Tarrasch variation game with black pieces.


According to ANI, it said Carlsen had racked up three wins in a row as he ominously cranked up the gears. But against 16-year-old Praggnanandhaa, he blundered badly, and the Indian star held firm for the win, ANI reported. 


The teenager drew against Anish Giri and Quang Liem Le and lost to Eric Hansen, Ding Liren, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.


When asked how he would celebrate his victory, he replied with, "I think it's about just going to bed," FIDE's website quoted Praggnanandhaa as saying, reported ANI.


On Monday, Legendary Batter Sachin Tendulkar congratulates the the16-year-old Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa for defeating world champion Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of the Airthings Masters - an online rapid chess competition.  


According to the tweet, Sachin Tendulkar said Praggnanandhaa has made India proud and wished him a "successful" chess career ahead. "What a wonderful feeling it must be for Pragg.
