"India scripts history," says PM Modi as India achieves 1 billion vaccination milestone

PM Modi expressed gratitude to the health care workers who helped in achieving this feat.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the country for achieving the milestone of 100 crore Covid-19 vaccination doses today. "India scripts history," PM Modi tweeted on his Twitter handle as the milestone of 1 billion doses administered to people was achieved shortly before 10 am today.

PM Modi further tweeted that this milestone "is a triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians." He expressed gratitude to the health care workers including doctors and nurses who helped in achieving this feat.

PM Modi also visited Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after the number of doses crossed the 100 crore mark. According to the government data, around three-fourth of the total adult population have been administered the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 30 percent have been completely inoculated.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated the people of the country and tweeted in Hindi, "Congratulations India! This is the result of the leadership of our visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi." Reportedly, the top five states which have administered the maximum number of jabs are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

India has also given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to three more vaccines Moderna, Zydus Cadila and Johnson & Johnson in addition to Oxford-Astra Zeneca's Covishield which is being manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII), Bharat Biotech's Covaxin and Russia's Sputnik V. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the current recovery rate of the country is at 98.15% which is highest since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
