India Sees 70% Death Among Men Due To COVID-19: Health Ministry

Heath Ministry says corona virus related deaths have seen a tally of 70% men.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan gave an age and gender wise distribution of total cases of COVID-19 infections and said “Seventy percent of all deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported among men and forty five percent deaths have been reported in those below 60 years of age.”

This data was shared by the Health Ministry on Tuesday when it was briefing the nation on its fight against the virus amid the detection of a new mutant strain of the corona virus which first arrived in the United Kingdom. Just as the nation recorded its lowest daily rise in the past six months, the mutant strain has arrived in India now which puts the citizens on a fear of another wave of infections which will further lead to more lockdown and restriction in various states and Union Territories (UT).

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in January in India the virus has hit the men harder than the women as 70 percent are male out of approximately 1.47 lakh deaths that have taken place due to the virus. Mr Bhushan mentioned “63 per cent of total cases were among men….52 per cent cases were in the 18-44 age group but only 11 percent deaths were reported from this segment.”

The daily deaths in the country after six months are the lowest in per million in the world. the cases have now slipped to 300 cases aday and an active number of 2.7 lakh cases
